Waking up on your wedding day with brows, lips and eyeliner already done means one less thing to worry about, and makeup that survives happy tears, hugs and dancing. Bridal permanent makeup is popular for exactly that reason.
The secret is timing. Permanent makeup needs weeks to heal, so if you book too late, you could walk down the aisle mid-flaking.
How Long Before the Wedding Should You Get Permanent Makeup?
Book your first procedure at least 3 months before the wedding. That leaves time for:
- the first procedure to heal fully (4–6 weeks);
- a perfecting session, booked at least 6 weeks after the first one;
- the perfecting session to heal fully (another 4–6 weeks).
Your Wedding Countdown
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| 4–6 months before | Free consultation: choose technique, shape and color |
| 3+ months before | First procedure |
| 6+ weeks after the first procedure | Perfecting session |
| 4–6 weeks after the perfecting session | Healed, final result |
| Wedding week | Optional brow lamination or tint for your natural hairs |
Planning a beach honeymoon? Even more reason to be fully healed: pools, the ocean, saunas and direct sun are off-limits while permanent makeup heals.
What If the Wedding Is Sooner?
- 6–8 weeks away: a single procedure can heal in time, but you will skip the perfecting session. We usually suggest a soft, natural design.
- Less than 4 weeks away: we recommend waiting until after the wedding. Brows and lips can still look patchy, light or uneven while they heal, and the final color shows only after 4–6 weeks.
Which Procedure Should You Choose?
Brows
Brows frame your face in every photo, so they are the most popular bridal choice. Choose nanoblading for natural hair strokes or powder brows for a soft, filled-in look. Not sure? Read nanoblading vs microblading vs powder brows.
Lip Blush
Lip blushing gives your lips natural color all day, under any lipstick, and keeps them looking fresh after the lipstick wears off. Lips need the full six weeks before a touch-up; see the lip blush healing stages.
Eyeliner
Permanent eyeliner keeps your eyes defined even after crying. For a natural bridal look, choose a soft lash enhancement; see permanent eyeliner styles.
You can do several areas, but we usually plan them so you are never healing everything at once.
Will It Look Good in Wedding Photos?
Yes, as long as it is fully healed. Healed permanent makeup looks soft and natural, while fresh work can look darker and sharper than intended. That is the main reason for the 3-month timeline.
Wedding-Day Makeup Over Permanent Makeup
Your makeup artist can apply makeup over healed permanent makeup as usual; just tell them what you had done. Healed brows look great with a brow gel to style the hairs, and lip blush makes any lipstick look fuller and last longer visually.
Budget and Payment
Permanent makeup at Soulu costs $400 – $1,700 per procedure, the consultation is free and new clients get 10% off their first visit. You can spread the cost with payment plans. See how much permanent makeup costs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I get permanent makeup before my wedding?
At least 3 months, so the first procedure and the perfecting session can both heal fully.
Can I get permanent makeup 2 weeks before my wedding?
We don't recommend it. At two weeks the color can still look patchy, light or uneven; the final result shows after 4–6 weeks.
Is permanent makeup good for brides?
Yes. It survives tears, hugs, dancing and long days, and you look put-together in every photo, as long as it has fully healed before the wedding.
Should I do brow lamination before the wedding?
You can, in the wedding week, as long as any permanent makeup has fully healed. Lamination lasts up to 6–8 weeks.
Can I pay for permanent makeup in installments?
Yes. See our Payment Plans page for options.
