Looking for permanent makeup in New Jersey? The result depends almost entirely on who does it, so choosing the studio is the most important decision you will make, more important than the technique or the price.
This guide covers what to look for in a permanent makeup studio in NJ, the questions to ask before booking and what to expect at Soulu, our studio in Edgewater, Bergen County, just across the Hudson from Manhattan.
What to Look for in a Permanent Makeup Studio
Before you book anywhere, check these six things:
- Healed results in the portfolio. Fresh photos always look sharp. Ask to see brows, lips or eyeliner a few months after the procedure.
- Licensing and training. Permanent makeup artists in New Jersey need a license; AAM certification is the standard pathway to it.
- Experience with your skin and your goal. Oily skin, mature skin, scars and previous permanent makeup all need a different approach.
- Design approval. You should see the drawn shape on your face and agree to it before the procedure starts.
- Hygiene. Single-use needles, opened in front of you, and a clean treatment room.
- Clear aftercare. Written instructions and an artist you can contact if you have questions while healing.
Questions to Ask Before You Book
- Can I see healed results for the procedure I want?
- Which technique do you recommend for my skin type, and why?
- Who will do my procedure, and how much experience do they have?
- Is the consultation free, and is a perfecting session recommended?
- What happens if I don't like the drawn shape?
Permanent Makeup Services at Soulu
At our studio in Edgewater we offer:
- Eyebrow nanoblading: ultra-fine hair strokes for natural, fuller brows, without the drawn-on look.
- Powder and ombre brows: a soft shaded effect, like brows lightly filled in with makeup.
- Lip blushing: soft color and definition that keeps lips looking natural.
- Permanent eyeliner: defined eyes without smudging, from a subtle lash enhancement to a soft wing.
We also offer NanoHair, scar camouflage, areola reconstruction, permanent makeup removal, and brow lamination, tint and shaping. See all services and prices.
Nanoblading in New Jersey
Many clients ask for microblading and leave with nanoblading. Both create hair strokes, but nanoblading uses a machine with a single ultra-fine needle instead of a hand blade, so the strokes look more natural, the skin heals more gently and the result holds up better on oily skin. Permanent Makeup Prices in NJ
At Soulu, brow, lip and eyeliner procedures cost $400 – $1,700, depending on the procedure and the artist. Nanoblading starts at $750. The consultation is free, and new clients get 10% off their first visit. See the full breakdown in how much permanent makeup costs.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
- Consultation. We talk about the result you want, the shape and the color.
- Sketch and approval. Your artist draws the design on your face. Nothing starts until you love it.
- Procedure. Numbing cream keeps you comfortable while the pigment is placed with sterile, single-use needles.
- Aftercare. You go home with step-by-step instructions for brows, lips or eyeliner.
- Perfecting session. At least six weeks later, once the skin has healed, we fine-tune the color and shape if needed.
Results usually last 1–2 years. A refresh every 12–18 months keeps them looking fresh.
